Pescadou Bistro, located in a rather non-descript storefront on Newport’s scenic Balboa Peninsula, is uncompromisingly French. It is also very casual and just plain fun. Owners Jacques and Olga de Quillien, who took over the restaurant in recent years, have made plenty of superficial changes, but have also maintained most of the original owner’s spirit and culinary sensibilities. (No surprise as Olga’s sister was the former owner.) Provençal fare is served here such as rabbit à la moutarde, a seared duck breast with green peppercorns and an onglet (grilled hangar steak) with shallots. Regulars come for what is known as Newport’s best bouillabaisse. If you're looking for value, the $20 prix-fixe menu can't be beat.
