Peter Lowell's Restaurant Review: The menu targets SOBs: sustainable, organic and biodynamic ingredients (translations happily provided to the uninitiated). It’s a place where seasonality reflects the weather outside and ingredients and flavors embody purity. Take the cipolla pizza, dabbed with marinara and red onion shavings before facing flame; a pile of raw arugula appended to the cracker-crisp crust preserves a final Parmesan dusting. Meat goes M.I.A., but it hardly matters with comfort dishes like orecchiette and braised rapini under browned breadcrumbs, or roasted snapper with beets. Ponder soy and vegan alternatives, or sin with gusto via mousse-like chocolate truffle cake. Another high note: the wine list, culled from eco-centric grape growers. Grab light breakfast and lunch to go, or dine while poaching their wireless. Despite the homemade granola and rainbow window transparencies, this is no grunge shack---the clean design feels urban. |
