| Jacky Robert's two-story bistro is set in a brownstone at the edge of Kenmore Square and aims to provide the same casual and affordable experience its French counterparts offer. To that end, Robert and his crew turn out classic workmen's lunches like croque monsieurs, crêpes and omelets, as well as the wonderfully messy burgerdog en baguette. Hearty simplicity defines the dinner menu, too, from the house pâté assortment to tripe Provençale to calf's liver sautéed with bacon and onion. Best of all for sweet-toothed sorts, the subterranean pastry bar serves up its meticulously detailed confections---from crunchy-chewy macaroons served in their own chocolate box to a rustic tarte Tatin---the whole day long. |
