THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Phil's Angus Steakhouse Restaurant Review:
It begins with the dimly lit foyer and its handsome dark wood-framed, glassed-in wine racks, leading to the cozy library-like dining room with its beveled glass and burgundy leather banquettes, above which are shelves displaying vintage-bound books. The menu is classic steakhouse starting with appetizers such as stone crab meat-stuffed cremini mushrooms with wasabi-soy-ginger sauce; and bocconcini salad with fresh mozzarella, vine-ripened tomatoes, basil and spring mix. The house salad or soup of the day---try the New England clam chowder on Friday---precede entrées. Early bird specials from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. are a breaded double chicken breast broiled with herb butter or spicy chili rub and a 12-ounce cut of prime rib. Among house specialties are six- and 12-ounce filet mignons and a 14-ounce New York strip steak. Trenchermen also like the herb-crusted Colorado lamb rack. For a change of pace, try prosciutto-topped chicken Italiano with spinach and mozzarella over penne pasta; or herb-crusted, pan-seared halibut with spicy mustard. Desserts displayed on a silver platter include petite drum-shaped cheesecake and raspberry mousse.
