With Phil’s Mission Hills storefront now closed, barbecue fans are grateful for Phil’s in Point Loma. The roomy 280-seat restaurant is a bigger and better location with the down-home feel of lots of wood and cozy booths. Five cashiers move the crowd faster, yet there is still a long line of barbecue fans waiting for a table nearly every day and night. What’s worth the wait? People like getting messy with those baby-back ribs, barbecued chicken and buttery ears of corn on the cob. For us nothing beats the brougham sandwich---tender shredded pork sauced with Phil's potion, served on a thick bun and topped with creamy coleslaw. Order up some baked beans, beer-battered onion rings and hand-cut fries and you will be in hog heaven.

Phil's BBQ Rules!
by Chadwickglide on 07/18/2009

The Best ribs that I have had in CA are at Phil's BBQ! It appears that I am not alone because there is constantly a line of people winding down the front sidewalk from this place. The chicken is good too, but don't miss the baby back or beef ribs. Side dishes are all homemade (Cole Slaw snobs will not be disappointed). The Colossal Onion Rings should not be missed. Get yourself down to San Diego and visit Phil's before you hit the beach.
