Pho Van Restaurant Review: Eighty-second Avenue might not be the most upscale address in Portland, but Pho Van constitutes a classy exception. The huge dining area is elegant and beautifully decorated with Vietnamese artwork. There are many variations of Vietnamese pho, based on a deeply aromatic rich broth. The signature soup features thinly-sliced rare beef, meatballs, tripe and tendons, but feel free to choose noodles and proteins to suit your preferences. Fresh herbs and greens accompany the steaming bowls, and a variety of hot sauces on the table may inspire explosive tastes. Don’t miss the crispy salad rolls or the banh xeo, a rice flour crȇpe stuffed with shrimp, pork, bean sprouts, mung beans and onions. The minced shrimp and chicken wrapped around sugarcane stalks and grilled is an interesting choice. Thai beer and a small wine list are available, and the creamy, sweet Thai iced tea also has many fans. But the best accompaniment to the food is probably the refreshing sweet-tart lime soda. For dessert, sample the intriguing banana bread pudding served on a bed of coconut tapioca pearl sauce. Also located at 11651 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy., Beaverton Town Square, 503-627-0822.
