Sandwiched between the nightclubs and peep shows of North Beach’s row of ill repute waits this welcoming, white-tablecloth Indian restaurant where only the prices are cheap. The spacious, spotless dining room features a sponged umber color scheme with quirky, ornate murals and framed art, graceful pillars, and an unobtrusive exhibition kitchen; great care is taken with service and warmth, and families and larger parties should feel right at home here. Steering clear of buffet-style Indian, Urban Curry provides sit-down service with above-average naan (try the garlic), especially creamy curries including a good lamb version, satisfying chicken tikka masala, and roughly 15 vegetarian entrées. All spice levels are nicely accommodated to order. If it’s fresh, don't miss the chai.
