| The 1914-built Pines Tavern is situated on 13 acres of country landscape---including several acres already cultivated with herbs, vegetables and more than 4,000 heirloom tomato plants. What the restaurant doesn’t grow it acquires from local producers supporting fresh, sustainable, organic agriculture. The kitchen turns out contemporary American cuisine, as well as traditional items celebrating the seasons. Perennial favorites include the consummate crab cakes, crispy Tavern chips with white wine and blue cheese sauce, and strawberry spinach salad. Homemade pies, a bananas napoleon and toasted pecan ball lead the dessert list. Next to the more formal dining rooms, there’s a cozy taproom. The restaurant shines in special events, wine dinners, beer dinners and (Christmas) holiday decorations. |
