Pomodoro Pizzeria & Trattoria Restaurant Review

: Hearty Italian-American cooking is the order of the day at this family-owned eatery. Simple wooden chairs and tables, painted seaside views through trompe l’oeil windows, and an authentic wood-fired brick oven make for a comfortable setting. To start, try the calamari vino Bianca, tender squid sautéed in fresh garlic and basil, or share the cold antipasti della casa, with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, olives, prosciutto, soppressata, sun-dried tomato, eggplant caponata and artichoke hearts. Among the pasta choices, classic bolognese, a hearty blend of ground veal, pork and beef in tomato sauce, is more than satisfying. Salmon Mediterraneo, a wild Atlantic salmon filet simmered in plum tomato and white wine with mixed olives and littleneck clams, is a favorite. Desserts include tiramisu and gelato, providing a traditional sweet finish. The wine list runs to well-known Italian regional selections, such as Sangioveses and classic Chiantis, along with some finer selections like a Brunello di Montalcino from Tuscany, and a Marchesi di Barolo from Piedmont.
