Public House 49 Restaurant Review: In a centrally located space on Main Street in Patchogue is this gastropub with an understated style that transforms from a restaurant during the day into a club at night. Its dual roles don't take anything away from the food, which is reasonably priced and just adventurous enough. The dining room, separated from the bar by doors, is decorated in dark wood with stainless steel accents, with large booths and tables that make it appropriate for a casual lunch or dinner with friends. For an appetizer, classic Buffalo wings are hot and crisp, and pulled pork nachos have more than a few loyal fans. Salads and burger topping options abound, but try the steak flatbread served with potato wedges. It's overstuffed with steak that has a satisfying tang and blends well with a savory tomato jam. Dinner options include homey braises like osso buco with risotto and roast chicken. Wash it all down with one of several brews on tap. Don’t forget to check out the desserts, which feature lighter choices like berries and cream or richer delights such as cakes.
