Pueblo, Costa Mesa, CA

Pueblo Restaurant Review

: This Costa Mesa eatery is an ideal fit for the hip OC Mix at South Coast Collection. The restaurant inhabits a compact space, with an unfussy design marked by earth tones and funky art. The result is a genuinely relaxed vibe that doesn’t feel forced or gimmicky. Tapas are the real thing: Spanish-inspired small plates. Expect hot and cold dishes like lamb meatballs with sofrito, creamed cod croquettes with potato and manchego cheese, and chilled mussels in tomato gazpacho. The kitchen also whips up a daily take on paella using forward-thinking ingredients like squid ink. The wine list somewhat surprisingly skews toward California labels, but there are plenty of Spanish wines on hand as well, should you want the full experience of España. The lunchtime crowd drops by to indulge in Spanish sandwiches and salads, along with a truncated list of tapas. Rotating desserts are highlighted by the indulgent goat cheese cheesecake.
