| Finding high-quality sushi in the desert isn’t as difficult as it used to be, thanks to RA, a modern and hip raw fish house located in the chic La Encantada shopping mecca. And while it may be part of a national chain, there’s nothing cookie-cutter about the place. The sushi menu is stamped with all the usual suspects, but house specialties like the “RA”ckin’ shrimp and “RA”ckin’ roll---crab and cream cheese wrapped and tempura-fried and topped with guacamole---are delightful. The shishito peppers are not for the faint of heart, but the pineapple cheese wontons will cool things down. Entrées include chicken katsu and apple teriyaki salmon. Renowned for its happy hour, cocktails are the main potent potables at RA, but the saké list is well-rounded and the California-heavy wine list offers other worldly wines as well. Desserts are few, but a favorite is the sweet mochi trio. Heads up: RA gets pretty lively and loud, but we sort of like that. |
