Taking over the spot long occupied by Sam Choy's fine-dining restaurant on Kapahulu Avenue, The Ranch House is a reincarnation of a longtime local favorite originally located in Aina Haina. The menu is filled with local comfort foods such as prime rib, seafood, meatloaf and chopped salads. We recommend the pupu platter which varies according to what the chef has prepared for the day---be aware that the size of this platter could easily feed two persons with light appetites. A don't-miss is Tutu's meatloaf topped with a Hamakua mushroom gravy that achieves a fine balance of flavor and silky texture. Desserts are in the same vein of familiar favorites and you won't go wrong ordering the Hawaiian sweet bread pudding with seasonal fruit and vanilla bourbon sauce. The service is welcoming, friendly and efficient. This place is a good choice for families and offers an Ohana Dinner served family-style which will serve two adults and two children---it comes with salad, choice of two entrées, rice, mashed potatoes or corn plus dessert for a fixed price.
