The upbeat American menu is in the hands of Jimmy Schmidt, arguably Detroit's best-known chef. And the contemporary, art-filled setting and a view of the river through big windows further ensures its place as one of Detroit's premier dining destinations. Unlike some restaurants that do not showcase the best dishes at lunch, signature preparations are available here throughout the day. Typifying the style is Maine sea scallops with lobster, red pasta pearls and ginger froth. Schmidt also offers grilled steaks and chops. Salads include everything from a simple Caesar to one topped with honeyed, herbed warm goat cheese. Baskets of house-made bread, rolls and muffins usually include sourdough, focaccia and rosemary or olive flavorings. Schmidt's philosophy is to use seasonal ingredients, so the menu changes frequently. Desserts include the white chocolate ravioli with hazelnut crème anglaise. There also are confections starring fresh seasonal fruits as well as house-made ice creams and sorbets.
