Joey Crugnale made a name for himself as the originator of Bertucci's and, more recently, opened a mid-range seafood chain called Naked Fish. As a restaurateur, he is the undisputed People's Choice for finding a way to give diners what they want with hits of style and taste to boot. His latest venture, Red Sauce, is a return to both his Italian past and a re-embrace of the American love affair with the cooking of immigrants from that country's South. Multiple outlets are spread around the suburbs where families and even youthful singles are enjoying the basic menu of chopped salads, handmade meatballs, thin-crusted pizzas, gnocchi, creative pastas like basil-pumpkin ravioli, simple roasts and (of course) plenty of red sauce. The moderate prices quickly turn fans into regulars---and regulars into Crugnale fans.
