In a space not much bigger than a shoebox and just below a rowdy nightclub lies a classy little Middle Eastern café run by an Israeli family. Grape leaves, hummus, tzatziki, pita sandwiches, shishlik, kebabs and more grace the menu in this darkly decorated restaurant. Dishes come with your choice of megadarra (rice and lentils) or crisp, basil- and garlic-seasoned curly fries (go for the fries). The beef kebabs are like juicy meatball patties rather than the cubes of steak we’re used to in the U.S. but your server will assure you that’s the way it is in Israel. Not sure if you’re the adventurous type? Opt for lunch and save yourself a few bucks on the same entrées. You’ll also avoid the inevitable thumping from the club upstairs on busy nights.
