THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Restaurant at Culinard Restaurant Review:
Although the days of super bargain prix-fixe lunches and dinners are gone, The Restaurant at Culinard still offers appealing plates at reasonable prices. Senior students cook (under the supervision of chef-instructors) in this showcase restaurant for Virginia College’s culinary school. Menus change quarterly with tempting selections---some featuring local ingredients and wines. Offerings range from the classic to the adventurous. Choose a grilled rib-eye steak with sweet potato fries or grilled venison with cranberry stew, mushroom polenta and fried leeks. Spiced braised duck with saffron fettuccine shows up as a main dish at lunch or as a dinner appetizer. Sticky toffee pudding contrasts sweet flavors with slightly tart crème fraîche ice cream. Pumpkin crème caramel is served with five spice orange sauce. It is likely the kitchen will pull it all off smoothly. A small but nice wine selection is available, or bring your own and pay a modest corkage fee.
