THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Restaurant Jennifer James Restaurant Review: Restaurant Jennifer James is one of two restaurants Jennifer James operates with her two sisters who are also professionally trained chefs (the other restaurant is Graze by Jennifer James in Nob Hill). Both restaurants share an affinity for the small plate format, in other words, the old paradigm of appetizer-entrée-dessert gives way to a mix-and-match dining style. James takes liberties mixing and matching flavors also---combining sweet and hot, bitter and savory, to arrive at some daredevil combinations. In other words, it's not your grandfather's kind of dining. Small plates include salt-cured foie gras combined with Sauternes and arugula, and pan-seared scallops with cardamom reduction and celery root purée. Big plates include grilled quail with a pomegranate and date chutney and venison osso buco rubbed with ancho chile and served with buttery yams.
