THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Restaurant Kevin Taylor Restaurant Review

: Chef Kevin Taylor's signature restaurant has an understated urbane elegance equally suitable for a power dinner or a romantic one. This luxurious sage and gold room offers chic comfort with wide silk upholstered armchairs, heavy gold tapestries at the windows, wood paneling and a changing display of paintings from Denver galleries. For appetizers, try the open raviolo surfaced with baby artichokes, the seared foie gras with crème fraîche sorbet, or the yellow tomato gazpacho with roasted pepper gelée. Other highlights: Broken Arrow Ranch antelope steak with a red currant sauce and port-poached pear, and rack of veal and confit sweetbreads with fingerling potato gratin and braised baby leeks. The fact of the red meat-fish dichotomy is no problem since we are able to choose the appropriate accompaniment from Taylor's selection of over 20 wines by the glass, which includes a '96 Napa California Girard Chardonnay and a '97 Markham Vineyards Merlot. The finale to this tasteful indulgence is the bittersweet liquid-center chocolate cake, a house specialty.

Definitely NOT a Four Star Restaurant
by Bob B on Mon Feb 16, 2009 6:35 pm
I have dined in the finest restaurants in the world, not to brag, but to indicate I have the knowledge to speak intelligently about fine dining.
Dining Room Atmosphere: Slightly above average
Service: Well below average for a four star restaurant. The wait staff is too noticeably present. In a restaurant of this level they should be like ghosts - Attentive, but never seen.
Food: Great Presentation, but the food is fair at best.
I had the fois gras, which by itself was excellent, but it was totally overwhelmed in flavor by the Vanilla French Toast, which was soggy - not a good pairing.
The lobster salad was worse. The lobster is to be the focus of this dish, but the large pieces of avocado again overwhelmed the dish.
For the main course I ordered the Seared Hawaiian Tuna. The highlight of this dish was the Pork Belly Potstickers. The tuna was lacking in both texture and flavor.
For dessert, I enjoyed the Bittersweet "Liquid Center" Chocolate Cake - Very Good.
Price: The normal day to day price for the four course meal of $65 would be fair, but to escalate the price to $125 per person on special occasions is not.
Restaurant Kevin Taylor is at best a Two Star Restaurant that is charging Five Star Prices with Two Star Service and Food.
