Ricciuti's Wood-Grill Pizza Restaurant Review: One of the metro area's most famous pizza destinations, Ricciuti's turns to wood-grilling its pies (just sniff the smoky aroma in the parking lot) and creating a pizza menu which elicits loud cheers. Turning its back on traditional toppings, the kitchen here thinks creatively. From the Mexican pizza with refried beans to the pizza carne with loads of cheese and cold cuts, to our favorite the Pizza Finito with Gorgonzola melted over caramelized onions, the pizza choices make for festive eating. In addition, pizza-lovers can construct their own pies with assorted topping choices, or turn to the strombolis and calzones that put a different face on pizza eating. Whichever you select, don't skip past appetizers; we found the antipasto salad charmingly contrived with cheese-stuffed cherry peppers, first-rate meats and freshly made, still-warm mozzarella. Pasta dishes and sandwiches round out the lunch menu; dinners display classier fare---Australian lamb chops or roasted rainbow trout---to augment the pizza selection. Desserts are just as worthy, and though the chocolate pizza sounded tempting we headed straight for the tartufo, here a scoop of quality gelato rolled in cocoa powder and caramelized peanuts. Another plus for Riciutti's: its white-frame, historic house setting with quaint front seating area makes a meal here seem like a trip to the country. |
