Roadside garlic shrimp stands are ubiquitous along Oahu’s North Shore, but Romy's Kahuku Prawns & Shrimp is a standout. Its 30-pond shrimp farm is just steps away from the kitchen --- you can’t get much fresher than that. This means everything cooked is made to order, which often results in long lines and wait times --- but the food is worth it. (Tip: Call in your order ahead of time.) Buttery garlic shrimp, served with Romy's proprietary dipping sauce, is the most popular dish. Or choose a special sunfish plate; again, the fish is raised in the adjacent ponds and harvested daily as needed. Sides include Kahuku sweet corn and local-style pineapple topped with li hing mui flavor.
