| Since his formative years as a protégé of Chris Schlesinger at East Coast Grill, chef Andy Husbands has made it a personal crusade of sorts to turn Boston into a destination where fine food doesn’t preclude good fun. And just as his South End flagship, Tremont 647, remains ground zero for both bold global flavors and raucous late nights, his sophomore venture pays homage to both the cuisine and the good-time feel of the South, New Orleans included. Get a load of that naughty, bordello-esque bar, where mint juleps and hurricanes go down easy among voodoo tchotckes. Meanwhile, Husbands’ expertise as a pitmaster shows in the menu’s emphasis on barbecue, although daily specials reveal his equal flair for eclecticism. Unfortunately, the neighborhood hasn’t embraced Rouge with the same warmth as it did Tremont 647; the scene isn’t half as lively as the food. |
