| Upon arrival at brothers Reza and Max Kumars’ tucked away Persian café, sit on the shaded patio and linger beside the soothing fountain. Start with pistachio-flecked hummus or kashk-o-bademjan, a fried eggplant dip topped with garlic, mint and yogurt sauce. Fortifying stews and kebabs are the twin cornerstones of Persian cuisine, and chef Kay Vasai deftly prepares both. Fesenjun is a rich walnut and pomegranate stew topped with tender chicken. Juicy kebabs are highlighted by lamb filet and the casing-free ground chicken or beef sausages known as koobideh. There’s even a lamb shank in a tomato, saffron and cinnamon sauce. Entrées come with a bowl of luscious lentil soup. Fluffy basmati rice is also included. To drink, order a unique rose chai latte. No desserts are made in-house, but there are still some interesting options, including pistachio ice cream, and when available, violet chocolate and pandan coconut cupcakes. |
