The Ruby Slipper Cafe Restaurant Review: With Ruby Slipper’s multiple locations in New Orleans, one never has to venture far for a traditional Southern breakfast. Long a mid-city favorite among locals who mingle outside more than willingly waiting for tables, this Faubourg Marigny-area restaurant is situated in an old bank building that dates either to the late 19th or early 20th century, depending on who's telling (or making up) the history. Look for hearty egg and meat dishes, oversize fluffy pancakes with apple wood-smoked bacon, and brandy milk punches for breakfast. For lunch, start with fried green tomatoes and enjoy nicely proportioned salads and overstuffed sandwiches. Before you even think about leaving, say these words to your server: "Bananas Foster pain perdu please." The original outpost is at 139 S. Cortez St., 504-309-5531. Also located at 200 Magazine St., 504-525-9355; and 1005 Canal St., 504-525-9355.
