The Ruby Slipper Cafe Restaurant Review: Long a mid-city favorite among locals who mingle outside more than willingly waiting for tables, this Faubourg Marigny-area outpost of The Ruby Slipper Café is situated in an old bank building that dates either to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, depending on who's telling (or making up) the history. Look for hearty egg and meat dishes, oversize fluffy pancakes with apple wood-smoked bacon, and brandy milk punches for breakfast. For lunch, start with fried green tomatoes and enjoy nicely proportioned salads and overstuffed sandwiches. Before you even think about leaving, say these words to your server: "Bananas Foster pain perdu, please." The original outpost is at 139 S. Cortez St., 504-309-5531.
