Rumfire, located right on the beach at the Sheraton Waikiki, is more lounge than restaurant with its nightlife scene, tapas menu and slew of cocktails. The namesake spirit plays a part in many of the drinks, but you can also go beyond the Mai Tai with options like the Sexy Wahine with Beefeater gin, muddled cucumber and Elixir G ginger mix. The décor includes natural accents and floor-to-ceiling windows that embrace views of Diamondhead and the ocean. Sit inside near the bar for a lively and upbeat ambience or outside near the water's edge where the atmosphere is more private and romantic. Chef Matthew Naula, a local boy from Oahu, serves up fusion cuisine that merges Baja-Mexican dishes with Hawaiian ingredients. These "Bahawaiian" offerings include a sampler of ribs, tacos and empanadas, kalua pork enchiladas, and fish tacos made with grilled mahi mahi marinated in chimichurri. For dessert, go for the haupia and chocolate pie with mango and toasted macadamia nuts. As the sun sets over the ocean, fire pits and beachside torches light up the night and a younger crow materializes.
