| When locals want steak they think of Ruth's Chris first. The chain is a Mecca for carnivores who prefer beef lavishly seasoned and buttered. The filets benefit especially from the seasoned-butter application, but the best cut remains the strip, with a tender texture and deep flavor. Beef may be ordered here without those extras, but very few customers seem to do it. The steaks are of high quality, Prime-cut and well-aged. The restaurant is an all-around chophouse, with first-rate cuts of lamb, veal and pork. Side dishes are gigantic; we suggest the shrimp rémoulade, the house salad with its unique hot-paprika house dressing, and any of the dozen or so potato dishes. The international Ruth's Chris chain began in New Orleans in the 1960s, and the original New Orleans flavors endure at the heart of the menu. |
