THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sage Restaurant Review:

Chef Chris Svalesen has developed a loyal following through years at several good fish restaurants, and now he’s on his own at this little jewel in a frumpy strip mall, doing what he likes best, creating a new menu every week with no bean counters to wave calculators at him. We love the calamari---large tender rings in a light batter, delicately fried and served with searing serrano peppers, cilantro and a wasabi-infused soy dipping sauce. Baked Texas goat cheese is sinfully rich with big chunks of lightly roasted garlic and pine nuts. The fish ‘n’ chips plate holds nicely battered and fried fish, but the chips are large strips of dried-out potato that no amount of malt vinegar can improve. The chilled Asian shrimp angel hair pasta salad is topped with strips of wontons and lightly seasoned with soy and cilantro dressing; you may be tempted to steal a little extra wasabi from your calamari plate to liven things up. Desserts run toward the standards---bread pudding and flourless chocolate cake---and are generously proportioned for easy sharing.
