Salvador Molly's Restaurant Review: Food without borders is the theme at this family-friendly eatery in Southwest Portland. That means you’ll find highly-spiced dishes from Ethiopia, Thailand, Hawaii and Jamaica mingling with Latin Americas specialties (we suggest the open-face tamales). A pirate theme makes this a popular place for families, to say nothing of the open invitation to toss peanut shells on the floor. The décor is roadside tropical, the margaritas flow, and a Latin beat pulsates through the air. You can order informal dinners of Cuban sandwiches, or slightly more elaborate offerings, such as jerk pork and jerk ribs, or spicy jambalayas. For sunshine-starved Portlanders, all this color and tropical food is just the thing for winter days, and guaranteed cheaper than a ticket to the Bahamas. For extra fun and a good cause, the annual Great Balls of Fire competition here pits hot chile-eaters against each other to benefit charity. |
