Vegetarian South Indian food pops up at this Virginia restaurant as welcome relief from the usual casual American fare. The lunchtime buffet is quite opulent, but you may still decide to order from the extensive menu. Start with the firebrand battered chili pakora, a mound of Indian green chilies that are so hot three glasses of water won’t put out the fire. Other bests: the mysore masala dosa, a splendid combination of tempered curry flavors wrapped in paper-thin rice flour crêpes. With the numerous all vegetarian choices and reasonable prices, Saravana Palace may become a frequent destination.
