Savoy Café & Deli is a pleasant space just off the main drag in downtown Santa Barbara, a lovely California-style eatery where well-groomed patrons line up to pick from a plethora of dining options. It’s something of a cross between a European café---with freshly baked goods and espresso drinks---and an upscale American cafeteria, where diners serve themselves from an extensive salad bar or order comfort food classics such as macaroni and cheese, pot roast and mashed potatoes. This is one of the preferred lunch spots for health-conscious downtown workers and Santa Barbara’s army of ageless women, for whom lunch and shopping is the order of most every day. Apropos of the wholesome clientele, Savoy has a heavy health-conscious element, with many things organic, from eggs and coffee to tofu and loose leaf teas. The room can be packed during prime time in the middle of the day, but the quality food and rosy ambience make it worth the wait.
