| Warm, simple, vaguely countrified---upon entrance, Saybrook Fish House looks like nothing so much as a heartland diner. At meal's end, nice little touches like hot towels and a complimentary fruit bowl to cleanse both hands and palate enhance the home-style vibe. But in between is a full-on fishhouse experience. The extensive menu ranges from raw bar treats and fried seafood platters to old-school-of-fish entrées like scampi and broiled scrod---all of which come with bread, salad and family-style veggies. In short, for better or worse, comfort trumps excitement. |
