 Schooners Wharf Restaurant Review: Schooners Wharf has always had location, location, location going for it. Situated above the beach with a second-floor deck overlooking the ocean, it has been known as a good spot for a sunset drink or draft. However, the food has come into its own as well. It’s not a fancy menu by any means---you’ll still find typical pierside fare such as burgers, fish ‘n’ chips, sandwiches, salads, etc.---but touches like house-made dressings, swapping out bay shrimp for prawns on the now-generous shrimp cocktail, and attempting to source local products whenever possible make a difference. Favorites include the flatiron steak salad with blue cheese and bacon, grilled wild halibut (especially when local fish are available), and the panko-crusted calamari strips, hand cut in-house from tenderized steaks. The dessert menu is expanded too, and includes temptations like “The Cayookie,” a chocolate chip cookie baked to order in a cast-iron skillet and topped with vanilla ice cream. |
