Seafood Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:

Seafood Bar & Grill may not boast ocean vistas, but the interior has a wonderful island-style setting with a thatched hut bar, lauhala mats and rattan furnishings. (The purse hooks installed underneath the lip of the bar are a nice touch.) The restaurant is located upstairs in a shopping building, and the tables on the balcony look out on less than stunning views of silos in Kawaihae's industrial harbor yard. Inside, a few flat-screen televisions behind the bar are tuned to major sporting events. This is a casual spot has been around for more than a decade and draws both young and old with its fun, easy atmosphere and twice-daily happy hour specials. Fresh fish is sourced from right across the street, so seafood is naturally a focus. The poke burger features a seared patty of ahi poke served on a whole wheat roll alongside pineapple macadamia nut coleslaw. Add some heft to the “island salad” of baby mixed greens, romaine, soba noodles and house dressing by requesting slices of calamari steak on top. Wash it all down with a local beer on draft or a Mai Tai.
