| Ochre walls, a color echoing the Tuscan landscape, a dining room decorated with a mural depicting a lively Italian piazza, and live jazz create an intimate setting at this longtime neighborhood favorite. Combining Northwest ingredients with an Italian sensibility, the seasonal menu is approachable and appealing. Begin with mussels simmered in a smoked tomato/sweet vermouth sauce, or the succulent slow-roasted pork belly. Salads are made with bright vinaigrettes and pastas can be selected as either a first or main course. House-made pasta favorites include agnolotti filled with braised pork shoulder and ravioli stuffed with ricotta and goat cheese. House specials have included thinly sliced, baked eggplant rolled with ricotta, fresh basil and Parmesan. A classic lasagna features a pork, beef and veal ragoût layered with hand-made egg pasta, ricotta and béchamel sauce. The wine list starring Northwest varietals complements the menu. Finish with lavender-vanilla bean panna cotta topped with strawberry mousse or a dark chocolate truffle cake. Service can be slow. Just relax and imagine you are in Italy. |
