Sherman's Deli & Bakery Restaurant Review: Palm Springs is known for a lot of things --- perpetual sunshine, poolside lounging --- but having an abundance of Jewish delis isn’t one of them. The restaurant opened in 1963, and the décor speaks to the era; it has become the go-to for Kosher food. Breakfasts are bodacious --- an eight-egg omelet is an example --- and come with potatoes or sliced tomatoes and a bagel with cream cheese or toast. What Sherman’s is really known for is its menu of 40-plus sandwiches, piled high with meat and condiments and served on deli rye bread with a side of potato salad or coleslaw. While the tongue or liverwurst might appeal to a more daring palate, the New York-style pastrami feels as if you’re taking a bite out of the Big Apple, as does the thinly sliced Nova lox, whipped cream cheese, sliced onion and tomatoes served on a bagel. There’s an assortment of soups and salads, plus desserts including classic New York cheesecake. Sherman’s Deli offers beer and wine by the glass.
