| Enjoy an inventive menu of northern Indian specialties served by a gold-vested waitstaff that you’d expect to find in higher priced eateries. They attend to your every need in the dining room done in relaxed tones of saffron and rusty red, with a high domed ceiling painted to look like the sky. The tool of choice in the kitchen is a heavy iron pan called a kadhai that produces uniform heat, and dishes are composed using extra-virgin olive oil and very little butter or cream. The signature entrée elevates the lowly eggplant to a place of much deserved worship---delicate, stewed, round baby eggplants in a sweet-and-sour tomato sauce spiced with cumin, garam masala and coriander. Butter chicken starts off in the tandoor and then is shredded and simmered in tomato-based honey gravy. Shiva’s offers a wide array of vegetarian options, as well as some dishes geared more toward American taste buds, like lobster and rack of lamb. The wine list offers some good bargains both by the glass and the bottle. The daily lunch buffet is more expansive on weekends. |
