| Even though the name may be familiar---the restaurant is named after the former head coach for the Miami Dolphins football team---the restaurant chain has established a reputation of its own. The steaks are always reliable but should not be the only focus of attention. Appetizers include Shula's steak soup, definitely worth a try. There is also seafood, lamb and chicken on the menu. The well-appointed interior seems appropriate for a steak challenge of the type this restaurant offers: choices of a 12-ounce filet mignon, 24-ounce Porterhouse, 22-ounce cowboy, 20-ounce Kansas City sirloin, 16-ounce New York sirloin and 10-ounce steak Mary Anne. The champion challenge is the famous 48-ounce Porterhouse. Since 1948, diners who have managed to consume the 48-ouncer in one sitting get to join the 48 Ounce Club. Perks include an autographed photo of Don Shula, autographed football, and your name on the wall and on a Web site. So far, more than 25,000 people have qualified. |
