Slice Pizzeria Restaurant Review

: Slice is housed in what has to be the narrowest building on St. Charles Avenue. The space has a tendency to feel cramped if you sit in the front section; ask for a table in the back for more leg room. With relatively thin crusts, the pizza registers in style somewhere between New York and Chicago, and the toppings range from traditional (pepperoni, Italian sausage, garlic) to moderately gourmet (eggplant, olive pesto, Gorgonzola). As you’re in New Orleans, don’t be surprised by the alligator sausage pie. The vegan slice is topped with iceberg lettuce, summer tomatoes and payloads of basil. In addition to the pizza, there’s a caprese salad and daily specials that could include chilled melon soup, seared grouper and andouille sausage ragoût. Enjoy a big scoop of gelato to end the meal. Wines and beers are surprisingly well-selected for a pizza restaurant. Weekdays from 2 p.m.-6 p.m., Slice offers half-price appetizers, $2 beers and $3 wines by the glass. Also located at 5538 Magazine St., at Joseph St., 504-897-4800.
