This Sol Food location is a sit-down restaurant offering the vibrant, full-bodied food of Puerto Rico.
| San Rafael native Sol Hernandez first opened the tiny café Sol Food at 732 Fourth Street to offer the food of her father's land of origin---Puerto Rico. She expanded to open a second location at 901 Lincoln Avenue, now called “The Big Place.” So there are now two destinations for Sol's menu of reasonably priced, authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. This location is a full-out restaurant, with many tables and a jungle-inspired tropical feel, complete with throbbing Latin music. Once you order at a counter, food is brought to your table. Don't miss pollo al horno, a choice of one, two or three pieces of marinated chicken with garlicky salad, beans and rice with pimento-stuffed olives, and sweet or savory plantains. We also suggest Sol's Cuban and steak sandwiches, and the vegan coconut flan with cinnamon and rich cheese-based flan. Many dishes are made with organic ingredients. |
