Soleto Trattoria & Pizza Bar Restaurant Review: Innovative Dining Group (BOA Steakhouse, Sushi Roku) makes its first venture into downtown L.A. with Soleto in the former Zucca space, convenient to Staples Center and L.A. Live. Southern Italian dishes include traditional antipasti (e.g. meatballs al forno, flash-fried calamari), pastas, branzino, chicken Parmigiana and aged New York steak. A horseshoe-shaped pizza bar wraps around a red tile-clad oven from which both traditional and more innovative pizzas emerge from 1,000 degrees of heat. Truffled mushroom, or potato and bacon with Fontina, garlic cream, scallions and thyme are among the featured pies. Finish with tiramisu or salted caramel budino. A nice selection of Italian wines is offered, plus craft beer and some creative cocktails. A large central bar beneath an avant-garde chandelier give this place the feel of a neighborhood hangout, and for nearby downtown loft-dwellers, it's just that.
