SOMA Chocolatemaker in Toronto's historic Distillery District specializes in micro-batch chocolate bars made with cacao beans sourced from countries such as Peru, Madagascar and Papua New Guinea, to name a few. Their artisan approach also places an importance on using fair-trade and organic beans when possible. Frequent visits ought to be made to try the truffle flavor of the month---featured creations have included the "Sparky" filled with Gianduja (hazelnut milk chocolate) and Pop Rocks candy. Also available from Soma are pralines, traditional Italian cookies, toffee, gelato and sorbet, and "Elixirs" like Mayan hot chocolate spiced with ginger, Madagascar vanilla, orange peel and chili. A handful of tables are set up for guests to sit and savor their treats, and get a behind-the-scenes peek through large viewing windows into the "chocolate laboratory." SOMA also ships orders for visitors that become addicted to their desserts.
