South Main Kitchen, Alpharetta, GA

South Main Kitchen Restaurant Review

: One of historic Alpharetta's restored buildings offers its comforting rustic interior for this wood-and-brick finished dining space set with intimate tables for two all the way to communal tables. Chef Christy Stone transmits an aura of calm not common among chefs as she directs a busy kitchen to produce flavorful fare from locally produced primary materials. This is one kale salad you will want to indulge in, although we thought it needed a bit more olive oil to moisten the greens. Herb-crusted bone marrow displayed the sweet, rich flavors you would expect in such a starter. A bone-in rib-eye steak, cooked just as ordered, packed powerful beefy taste and needed no sauces for enjoyment. Seafood is a strong suit here, always simply prepared and appropriately embellished with a fine variety of sides. Georgia's Springer Mountain chicken provides the poultry offering. Desserts, too, are made in-house, and range from cheesecake to a S'Mores flourless chocolate cake. Classic cobbler shares billing with a coffee-flavored pecan tart. The wine list, while not lengthy, roams the globe, presenting everything from an AlbariƱo to a white Zinfandel, and all are well-chosen labels.
