| This tiny La Jolla eatery is not terribly unique, nor does it boast a famous chef. Instead, this family restaurant relies on fresh ingredients, bold flavors, professional service and tranquil décor to create the type of place San Diegans depend on for good food. The menu offers the requisite dishes: pad thai, chicken satay and tom ka gai soup. Larb, a warm salad comprised of minced chicken, lime juice, cilantro, peanuts, red onion, fish sauce and toasted rice powder, tastes particularly refreshing when wrapped in the accompanying crunchy lettuce leaves. For us, nothing beats the panang curry with tofu---crispy, light tofu squares, al dente haricot verts and sweet red peppers are enveloped in a tangy yet spicy red sauce. The pineapple fried rice is a must-try. Sautéed rice with chicken, shrimp, pineapple, cashews and raisins is served in a delightful pineapple shell and tastes just as good as it looks. |
