THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Spice Street Restaurant Review:
Owner/executive chef George Bakatsias possesses interior design skills that match his gifts for turning out Mediterranean rim cuisine. The restaurant's unique, exotic décor is Bakatsias’ own creation: grand-scale Asian artifacts are arranged throughout the space, illuminated by enormous contemporary light fixtures. In keeping with the ambience, you'll find sushi and Asian stir-fries, but the chef’s forte is Greek cuisine. Pita slices served with his trademark spicy harissa sauce set the culinary tone as soon as you are seated. Don't miss the mezze platter to sample house-made hummus, eggplant caviar and other Greek delights. Main dishes on any given night may include seared salmon with spinach risotto, rosemary-braised lamb shanks, bouillabaisse, and chicken kebab marinated in yogurt and curry. Apple peach salad makes an unusual meal-ender. The popular bar offers both standard cocktails and a large selection of wines by the glass, most from California. Special prices draw a lively crowd on weeknights.
