Most Americans may not be familiar with the food of Singapore, but that's a shame. One dish not to miss here is the signature whole crab sautéed in a sweet and hot sauce. Try appetizers such as grilled oysters with a ginger marmalade; an Indian-style bread, filled or not, served with a curry dipping sauce; or skewers of grilled chicken or lamb satay with one of the best peanut sauces around. Among the noodle and rice dishes is nasi goreng, the dish of spicy coconut rice with prawns and vegetables. Gado gado, assorted vegetables with peanut sauce, is also a pleasure.
