Sun Ray Grill Restaurant Review: Many restaurants have come and gone in Old Metairie, but Sun Ray Grill has survived. This color-splashed, high-energy spot is part of a small local chain that deals in everything from satays to quesadillas. The results end up somewhere between the super and the superficial. Nonetheless, Sun Ray Grill's uneven globe-trotting cuisine still manages a few bright spots. Barbados baby-back ribs, seasoned with Caribbean spices and brushed with a rum-laced barbecue sauce, are a sure-bet dish. Another winner is an Avery Island (La.) fire-roasted half duckling with a pepper jelly glaze. But more often the multiple layers of flavors create little more than culinary confusion. Sun Ray Grill would benefit from a well-constructed international wine list to complement its menu.
