| The owner-chef of this Shanghai-style Richmond District restaurant, Gordon Mok, was once the chef of the highly regarded Wu Kong restaurant, which graced the Rincon Annex for many years. The sun part of the name simply means new. But that doesn't mean you won't find some old favorites from the original Wu Kong era. Look for duck or squab with wine sauce, Shanghai crispy duck, smoked fish and the ubiquitous Shanghai dumplings. The later need to be eaten carefully because if done right, each of the steamed wonders is filled with seasoned pork and soup. If you simply pop one in your mouth, you may get an unwelcome surprise. That's why nibbling them from a soup spoon is the trick. On the cold side expect dishes like pickled jellyfish, baby clams, or octopus and seaweed salad. Seductive dishes that should be tried include the spiced golden pork, the crystal jade shrimp or the caviar, and salmon fried rice. Dim sum, again Shanghai-style, is served daily. |
