Sweetfin Poké in Santa Monica puts a California twist on poké, the Hawaiian raw fish dish. The concept at this counter-service restaurant is simple. Order one of the signature bowls --- mango albacore and spicy yuzu salmon are both good choices --- or create your own by choosing the fish (delivered daily to ensure freshness) and sauce to go with your base. We like all three of the options for bases: bamboo rice (short-grain rice milled with bamboo chlorophyll for extra vitamin B), kelp noodle-cucumber slaw and citrus-kale salad. All bowls come with the “Poké Basics” (scallions, white and black sesame seeds and salt), but guests can also choose from a lengthy list of add-ons ranging from pickled shiitake mushrooms to wasabi peas to chile marinated oranges. Vegetarians will be happy with the poké composed of sweet potato, carrots, avocado, cucumber, serrano and ponzu-lime sauce. Every day the kitchen creates different infused iced teas and coconut waters in flavors such as guava green tea. You may finish with the very addictive popcorn --- also made daily --- dipped in white chocolate and rolled in black sesame seeds and coconut shavings.
