Chef Ludger Szmania shows his German roots with the traditional schnitzel at his namesake restaurant, but he also serves steakhouse classics to showcase his wife and business partner's ranching background. A Magnolia neighborhood favorite, there's a lively family atmosphere, a welcoming community table, and a stone fireplace for warmth. The friendly bar and lounge at the back of the restaurant are ideal for sharing drinks and friendly conversation, while counter seats at the left of the room overlook all the kitchen action. Appetizers feature house-smoked salmon, and sides include a German cheese plate. Entrées range from a center cut New York strip steak and wild Alaskan king salmon to a hearty bratwurst platter. Several entrées are offered in smaller portions at reduced prices, a tradition we endorse because it leaves room for dessert. If we had to choose just sweet from the long list, it would be the complex saffron banana semifreddo gâteau topped with caramelized bananas and rum.
