THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Tampopo Restaurant Review:
Tampopo means dandelion in Japanese. Just like that wild, exuberant little blossom, this humble counter-service stand is a small but delightful find. Step up to the register to order your choice of 11 different bargain-priced big bowls of supple noodles in flavorful broth. We're fond of the cha-shu ramen, generously topped with thin slices of meaty roast pork; the miso ramen, with a meat-and-vegetable topping and a broth enriched with soybean paste; and the mabo ramen, with a spicy topping of stir-fried ground beef, tofu and shiitake mushrooms. There are also vegetarian options, along with cold noodles, stir-fried noodles, robust fried rice and the succulent little pot sticker dumplings known as gyoza. Having trouble deciding? Choose one of the reasonably priced combination trays, which feature smaller portions of several popular dishes. If you're coming for dinner, plan on an early one, since Tampopo closes for the night just after 7:30 p.m.
